Explorations Before the Holidays

We're playing a little catch up with posting a couple of explorations before our Christmas break.  We had noticed that our water table was not getting a great deal of traffic throughout the day so decided to fill it with snow.  We had noticed that many children were bringing snow in from outside to observe in buckets at our science centre so felt that this would extend their interest.  We included watercolours and brushes in the table as an invitation for children to explore colour and the properties of snow.  Many of the children had eyes wide with delight when they discovered this invitation for learning.

Our crown making group during inquiry/wondering time were working to put their finishing touches on their crowns.  We were astounded by the amount of time they put into matching their product to the plan they had created.  It was a wonderful learning experience for us as educators to encourage children to slow down and think deliberately about their creations.  Children also began to ask to work on their crowns outside of wondering time which was a true testament to their interest and investment in the project.  We feel that the photos below speak for themselves in terms of the care that children took in their work.  Truly amazing.
